GRANDADDY'S GUN
I am from steel and oak,
from brass fitting to trim.
I am from the case where I lay,
until someone needs me.
I am from growth and age,
from a man wise and gold.
I am a great gift from a great man.
I am from sentiment not worth,
from smelted metal I came.
I go with the men wherever I'm sent,
from dusk to dawn and thick and thin.
From practice I become a tool,
and from time a bond grows.
I'm from time and dirt,
from memories full of worth.
I'm from trust and honor,
a sign of passage.
I'm from a boy to a man, from friends to family.
