"Irony [is] the song of a prisoner who's come to love his cage" - David Foster Wallace

Ripples in a pool still come back

A pink seashell fell into a lake

I was staring at the sun

Wading, knee-deep, turning circles with erratic gaze

Thoughts tumbling like a brook

Clogging and unclogging in their daily dance

Smashed up against rocks eroding with the thick sludge of time

The seashell fell with a whisper

Suspended the song of nature in a windy silence

Clasped life’s energy all for itself in one greedy motion

Broke the surface

With an innocent plop

The tsunami tumbled towards my turned back

A wall of cement in frenzied attack battering my bones

Tattering my clothes ripping apart flesh in bits by bits

Foam filled my nose, blood, my mouth

Launch a hand grenade at the face of the south

Teeth blasted, maverick shards of skeleton

Pain descends on an inward attack

Brushing dense line, relentless attack

Blood babies are born from my spine from my back

In a gasp and a shudder, the stars blink to black

In sore languid movements I feign lift my head

Detach from these katniss, this old riverbed

Foliage pins me down by the ankles and wrists

In the darkest hours, blades of grass grown in my veins

I feel the sister waves lapping at my side

Begging for entry

Lolling my head to the side, my cheek to shallow water

The milky pink conch sits in clarity on a patch of untamed gravel

A portrait in golden-leaf trim, coated in syrup

Gazing back to the sky, the clouds in their intricate dance with destiny

A blue imperceptible shudder passes through me, a wave.
