Dirty Sand
I'll never forget that night on the cold
River sand, crawling through my toes and hair
We snuck down from our rooms,
Overlooking the murky, Mekong river
No lights, just the stars gazing down on us
Twinkling lights, like whispers flashing between another
You see, we had been drinking since 10
And it was already 2
All the others kids left us alone
Knowing from the look in our eyes
Decisions we would regret
One said, “Doesn't he have a girlfriend?”
“Not tonight, Michael.”
She asked me to take a walk down to the beach,
Leave everyone
She said it was too loud . . .
No one said anything, we didn't tell
We left
Next thing, we’re laying on the sand
Talking of life and guessing how far each star was
Our bodies crawled closer, till we became one
My memory fades with booze and shame
I'll never forget how we played on the cold river sand,
Lust slithering through my toes and hair
