Together Again
The smell of popcorn and sweat overwhelm my anxiety as I sit
Waiting…
I close my eyes and think of what i’m going to say as the scoreboard blares
Announcing our victory.
Shouts of excitement fill the air.
My uniform starts to get tighter and tighter
I feel as though I can’t breath.
My squad claps and cheers as I run to the cafeteria
I need water.
The sun pours through the open window
I feel a cool breeze as goosebumps overwhelm my body.
“Shannie!”
I smile as tears start to fall down my cheek.
A nickname my sister came up with so long ago,
Makes those two years of pain
Wash away.
And as her arms embrace me, for the first time in a long time
I am truly happy.
