Ant Hole
The ant likes to burrow itself into the tree
When least expected.
It goes after the tree that looks the strongest.
The only one
That doesn’t deserve it.
Ants burrow their cells
Into the deep hollows of the bark.
Eating and picking away at the
White oak, the red cells taking over.
Months later the ants have taken over the
Tree. Bark is breaking down, crumbling to
The grey floor. The leaves have fallen and
Broken apart making bald patches.
The ants never want to leave, but the
Tree is decaying too fast. They say their
Goodbyes and leave the dying tree in the
Hands of the white oak next door.
