A fresh start is nearly inevitable.

My friends and I jump in the car,

Our stomachs full of ice cream and laughter.

We play loud music and because we know all the words.

We head South but we need to go North.

The seatbelts in the car came up short,

It was then that our freedom became a feeling.

We were truly living.

The car was old but we didn’t mind,

We raced to the beach leaving everything behind.

It’s hard not to imagine a memory so clear,

Drowned in moments of happiness so sheer.

Our smiles lasted for miles at a time,

And the bumps in the road we laughed at and left behind.

Foolishly we went, on through our adventure,

We knew that this night we would always remember.

The night was dark but stars opened the sky,

And this is the trip that began the butterflies.

A feeling inescapable and now unforgettable,

For in that moment the fresh start was no longer debatable.
