Every day parents harm their children,

Making me question

Why?

 Why? If you don’t pay for them,

   Why? If you don't want to see them,

     Why? If you foster just for money and the thrill of a punch,

       Why? If you willingly give up your rights,

     Why? If you’re selfish enough to remove them from a good home to have them,

   Why? If you can’t afford to feed them and have a full stomach,

 Why? If you leave them to go meet your dealer.

Most importantly,

Why would the they get away with it?

 Ripping the security blanket of fosters,

   Creating the damaged “Daddy Issues” girl,

     Shifting the 9 year old wondering where  his mom is,

       Ignoring the teenager caring for her younger siblings alone,

         Turning their cheek to the bruises on his innocent skin.

The American Justice System

Claim they want what is best for them.

Yet don’t trust their gut,

Yet rack up the lawyer bills,

Yet postpone court dates,

Prolonging the boy’s abuse.

First hand, I’ve witnessed

The American Justice System

Fail.
