Night Terrors
When the sun parts and the night comes along,
When my heart pumps slower,
When the crickets chirp and my eyes escape,
A world much different from home.
Images like videos play that not even I can control,
A world that takes me away,
It could be thrilling,
Breathtaking,
Something so pure,
Something so real.
As my punches become weak and I realize there is no sun,
That’s when it shifts,
It goes from one frame to the next abruptly as if someone had burned the film to start over,
When I was a child I was afraid of sleep
When I am older the fear of sleep isn’t what keeps me going,
When the nightmares I once believed in are not just there when I sleep,
But when the sun takes on the day is what scares me.
