Princess Charming

He used to wrap you in fairytales like blankets.

He would place each glass slipper over your little toes, one by one.

Perfect fit.

But you made a vow to yourself that you’d stop believing in fairy tales the day you saw his lies.

You didn’t believe you had the magic to turn a beast into a Prince.

But maybe if you believed in Prince Charming,

he could save you.

Says the books anyway.

But maybe you were to far gone, maybe you were too broken.

Fairy tales weren’t your thing anymore.

Maybe even you were a little too tragic to live happily ever after.

From every boy demanding that you let him into your body,

your heart,

your soul.

You didn’t believe you could be loved,

maybe your were too far gone.

Too broken.

For a beast to turn into a real Prince for you.

But my darling,

maybe you are a princess who doesn’t need a horse and carriage.

Maybe you don’t have to turn that beast into a Prince,

to save your hurting soul.

Because maybe,

just maybe,

the princess saves herself in this one.

Place your own glass slippers on your feet.

Write your own goddamn fairytale,

with a number one selling novel,

or even a first class degree.

Because you’re worth more than every fairytale book,

every sleepy beauty and Snow White,

And than other princess who was saved.

You are fire.

Be your own princess charming.

Love yourself. Don’t allow your happiness to be dependent on anyone else - do not give people the power to hurt you. Make your own happiness, hold your own heart together.
