Fly Away, My Pen

Fly away, my pen,

Tell of tales new and old

That when sun ne'er shine again

Still we'll have this strength untold

And when joy is all but gone

And pain and sorrow grip my heart

Words of hope live on and on

And, of me, shall be a part.

*

I grip a cain around my neck

Whisp'ring words of hope and prayer

I pray that I'll ne'er forget

When clouds are grim and sky unfair

I cling to the raft of life

Lightning, waves, wind, come what may!

And I will never be alone

As we race to glorious day!

*
And so, as I write on and on,

Words of hope and words of light,

I find the dark inside me gone;

Truth does not dim, try as we might.

Though trials we face, like gold refined,

I'll not cave in, I know my mind.

So stand beside me 'till the end,

And fly away, away, my pen.
