running from the greed and danger behind me

running barefoot across a foreign wasteland

running through the smells of distant dreams and dried blood

running

stopping to catch my breath

in                 out

stopping to see my surroundings

dead            gone

but stopping is for those with

t    i m   e

so again i’m running

air whizzing by

like the sound of the river i happened upon

running right beside me

maybe i could jump in

we could run together

fast enough that nothing can catch us

away from the blacks and reds of the fist

i want to run until i see green all around

i want to look up and see oranges sparkling on the trees

i want to see blue fish swimming happily in a pond

then i find them and see

they are running in circles just like me

This poem was inspired by a Vietnam TV episode I was watching, and I added little things here and there. This poem was very interesting to write, I hope it encourages someone else to write more.
