The Shift
The morning is coming
Dew dripping down the window
Hunger saying “hurry up”
Birds heard chirping in the trees
Eyes on me; wondering
Calculating what I will do today
An undeclared life
dream-cut
Headlong into the dark sky
I drive in my car to the blue sea
The waves whisper and crash
while the sun gives its testimony
Reborn sweet and salty, it raises in the sky
The buttery smell wafts through the air
I shudder at the idea of what was left behind
This change will be good, I think
Shivering, I feel the serrated blade,
and see myself walk away

This piece was written using a very specific technique. A writer makes a list of sensuous language and descriptions, then flips through a book to find verbs, and creates a poem from that. This took many drafts, but I am proud of this piece as it hopefully leaves the audience quite intrigued.
