sleeping
I find myself getting lost in the sound of you sleeping.
The quick heavy breaths in
and the long breaths out.
Not quite loud enough to be a snore.
I can’t see you through the black screen
but I know your lips are parted,
your hands are under the pillow,
and your hair is a mess.
I can’t feel you through the black screen
but I know your whole body is warm
except the tip of your nose.
I don’t have to be a mind reader to know that you’re thinking of me as you sleep.
These things are intangible.
Just my imagination.
However, I can hear you sleep.
And it sounds like home.

This poem is about falling asleep on Facetime with my boyfriend. I wrote it one night when he fell asleep before me.
