Ode to the Forgotten Girl
I saw you sitting on those stairs.
I wanted to go over
But courage wouldn’t let me.
So I turned around and forgot.
Those eyes of gold
that melt frozen souls,
That obsidian hair,
Like a sunflower, always pointing to the sun because you hate the cold.
But I saw you on those stairs
Like a sunflower after a drought
Wilted
Tired
Beat unrelentlessly
by stress, work, and family
I wanted to help but it would hurt both of us more than I could heal
It didn’t help when raindrops fell from those eyes of gold
Those eyes of gold
Made me feel so cold
As I walked away head held low
My brain won’t let me remember your name,
But
When I glance back,
I see you sitting on those stairs.
Smiling from those cold eyes of gold.
