To the Two Coyotes I Met In an Open Field Last Night
Oh you beasts, look at you now
Running into the shadows
Survivors not fit to live
On land more yours than mine
We do not want you here now
We will say this land is ours
Our parks, our trails, and our yards
Don’t touch them, die if you must
If only you were a duck
Helpless in your disrespect
You would let us steal your eggs
And forget a missing friend
Yet you are not helpless here
Not in the eyes of us men
We fear what can possibly
Harm us as we have harmed them
This is an apology
You can barely be a threat
We’ve taken all you have
What more do we now expect
The one who fell in my pool
The one too scared to see me
And the two I met last night
I truly am sorry here
