Golden Brookes
It’s been a long, long ride. We
Find it hard to believe it’s real,
Too worked up trying to be cool.
Stress, anxiety, time, we
Let it all pass us by. Left
Behind by our peers, stuck in school
As the summer heat toils on. We
Are haunted by our memories, the fall and winter months lurk
In our minds, keep us awake late
Into the night. Friends and laughter and things willingly ignored, we
Hang on tight, know it’s coming well before the final strike.
Here it comes again, sleeping too much, not enough, everyday a blur, we can’t see straight
No more. Engulfed in the belly of time, we
Dance, our tears collecting in our chests, we sing,
Our words comprised of sin.
Who are we?
Our personalities are wearing a little too thin
These days, the gin
Is a little too watered down. We
Hear the soft music drifting through the broken school windows, jazz
Making our feet tap discreetly under our desks. School in June,
Who’s ever heard of that? It’s summer, we’re kids, we
Gotta get out, before they bury our spirits even more. We don’t wanna die
Like this. This summer will end and we’re holding out hope that the fall winds will bring back the laughter of our friends soon.
