Where I Am From
I am from grandma’s homemade gumbo,
From the cozy, small house filled with hugs of warmth,
Along with licks and purrs of the four legged loved ones
I am from the humid shade of the magnolias,
And the comforting scent of gardenias
I am from annual holiday gatherings,
And witty chit chats that surround the room
I am from the “Quit It Kiddo” and the “I’m Proud of You’s,”
To the “God is Good, God is Great”
I am from the wide smiles and moonpie faces
Of Anna, Robin, and Linda
I am from the absence of a needed loved one,
A life filled of a mother’s love,
And a bond that can never be broken
I am from the desire to look back and remember the good times past
From the lasting memories of quality time,
with the ones most loved
I am from the positive attitudes and the constant laughs
From the “Home Sweet Home’s” and the “I Love You’s”
