Where I'm from
I am from hairspray
From L’Oréal and Tresemme
I am from the bricks and wood
Big, gray
It felt spacious
I am from the oak tree,
The daisies
pretty, bright, and strong.
I’m from the Christmas party and brown hair
From Charmaine and Nicole and Mark
I’m from the kind and generous and
Do your chores
Don’t give up
And say your prayers
I’m from Jesus
Who forgives and protects
I’m from New Orleans and France,
Crepes and fondue.
From the great great grandfather who came from Utila to the United States
And the cousin in the football hall of fame.
Among the walls are photos of family.
I am from New Orleans living happily with my family.
