A Woman I Became, A Strong Woman At That
Becoming more aware,
My body, I cared.
My power I saw.
Self-Confident, Self Driven,
Selfless, I became.
No word a man could say could dull my fair as well as magnetic gleam.
No seam became too loose,
No mountain too high,
No man too masculine,
No difficult path not taken for fear.
These were the years.
The years my hair changed colors,
The years my life acquainted meaning.
A man’s hand no longer held me for protection,
I held a man, gave him resurrection.
I speak like a woman not a man,
Full of emotion not endless rants.
I became a woman for myself,
I became a woman by myself,
Not for or by anyone else.
I fight like a woman, for the girls.
I am one of a kind,
Empowered by none typical.
Fight for what’s right,
Shake what’s wrong.
Have empathy, Power,
Singing my feminine and pragmatic song all hours.
This was the year I became a woman,
A strong woman at that.

Over the years at my school, we have been learning history. Something that always has seemed to amaze me was how women used to be so dependent on men and now we can do anything just as good as/ even better than men. So I created this poem to not only show the gleam of a woman but the way we are powerful.
