for they are frightened.

They hear bangs and are confused.

They see an angry man with a gun.

He is firing.

First he fires at their friends and then at their teacher.

They are crying,

holding whoevers hand is closest.

All they want is to hug their mother and father,

but they are trapped, trapped by an angry man with a gun.

Why is this happening?

Ten are already with you in the kingdom of heaven.

Many are still frightened.

They wonder when this nightmare will end.

Will they wake up next to you?

or will they wake up the next morning left wondering

Where is my friend?

Where is my teacher?

Ten more have joined you in the kingdom of heaven.

Eyes are still closed and hands are still held tight.

The nightmare ends only to the sounds of sirens,

Please guide these children’s families

For although you have gained another with you in heaven,

they have lost one on earth.

Protect them from the sorrow and pain.

Let their hearts be filled with light.

Let their hearts be filled with forgiveness.

Let them learn to love and live again.

Let them regain an even stronger trust in you.

It may not seem great but YOU know best.
