The Secret
I'm writing sad endings to happy beginnings that haven't even happened yet
I'm writing our tomorrow when our today hasn't begun
I'm writing about a love song the band isn't ready to play yet
And just in case you didn't hear me the first time, this room echoes
I'm trying to shout something to you that your ears aren't ready to hear yet
I'm trying to show you something that your eyes have never seen
I'm trying to make you feel the pain that I have never felt yet
And just in case you didn't hear me the first time, this room echoes
I'm wishing for you to give me the one thing I want that you can't yet
I'm wishing for you to realize that we're not just a friendship
I'm wishing for you to love me even though I don't love myself yet
And just in case you didn't hear me the first time, this room echoes
I'm singing a song that doesn't want to leave my head yet
I'm singing a melody for you that you can't hear
I'm singing a poem that I wrote that you won't notice is for you yet
And since you didn't hear me the first time, my voice is dead

I wrote this piece for an English class in which I was told that I had to recite a poem, memorized. I didn't like any of the poems that my English teacher gave me, so I decided to write an original. My inspiration sprung from a new student whom I had begun to grow fond of. We had a relationship that just automatically sparked because he was a good person at heart and so am I. I knew that I would have to present the poem in front of the whole class, so it seemed like the perfect moment to tell him how I at least thought I felt. I didn't want to be childish about it or refer to it as a "crush" so I made sure that nothing in the poem specifically stated "I have a crush on you".
