House on mango street
Girls
All their dreams are band
Of the opera, travel, and all imaginable
Longing from the kitchen where they stand
Tasked with putting food on the table
Living in fear, scarred and beaten
Little girls gimpse their fate
While childhood is now they know it will come and men
Will cause them to suffer like their mothers filled with hate
Moms suffer
Knowing that they could have
That they would have
That they should have
Girls know they have no choice
But to grow up and become one under men
Depressed and oppressed, they will endure the like
From husbands and fathers who will keep them out of the light
