The Flower of Friendship
The deafening rumble of the bright yellow bus
A small blue, gray house up the street
A girl with wild brown curls
She is swallowed and it slowly rolls toward me
My mother asked me if I knew her
She was a complete stranger
With the possibility of a friend
A soft rustle as the seat gives
She moves in next to me
Her voice, small as a rose petal
She asks my name
I whisper
My voice quiet as a bird’s wings
She doesn’t hear and asks again
A bright smile, I learn her name
She talks, I listen
We’re different, yet the same
Laughter and fun
School comes too soon
A big, yellow bus
Us a flower
Friendship blooms
