To all the people who can vote,

You do not know how lucky you are.

You may not have to remember to thank the suffragettes

But everytime I hear the word "vote",

All I can see is the red stained sashes of

Purple, white and gold

And the embroidery screaming "VOTES FOR WOMEN"

Because, sadly, that is something we had to fight for.

And don't forget about all the little kids and all us teenagers

Hunched over the television

With fast heartbeats hoping

That maybe, just maybe,

The candidate that we think will be the best

Will get elected

And hoping that someone used their vote

As wisely as we would.

And as election day draws near, I know that many of us still can't vote.

Maybe we're not citizens, maybe we're not old enough

Or, maybe, some of us choose not to because "Oh, my vote doesn't matter."

Your vote matters more than you know.

Your vote could be the difference between life or death,

Between the person you could be crossing your fingers for

And the person you wish didn't run.

Your vote matters to the next generation, to the next leaders

To the next president.

Your vote can carry on your legacy.

Your vote can carry on mine.

Your vote can determine the voice of the next hundred years

And much, much longer than that.
Your vote matters.

So vote like your life depends on it,

Because for me,

It does.
