God does not play dice with the universe

There is an island in the middle of the ocean, surrounded by so many others. On all the other islands, everyone has a place. On one island, all the inhabitants are active and athletic. On another, it is filled with coffee mugs and bookstores and watercolors and beat poetry. On yet another island, hundreds of princes and princesses are vying for the attention of the queen and king. It is a storm, a whirlwind, a hurricane of emotions and opinions and at its center sits an island completely unlike the others. On this island sit hundreds of boys and girls that left their islands because they didn't fit the mold.

On this beautiful island, these misfit boys and girls are able to find peace. The prince who was born a princess, and the princess who was born a prince. The believer who doesn't believe anymore, the athlete who bats for both teams. The abandoned princess who left her crown to create a new life. The boy who just wants to dance, and the girl who thinks she needs to change for the boy she loves. The hipster that doesn't like coffee, the artistic princess that no one sees for the queen she is.

Alone they are the lost and broken pieces of forgotten puzzles. They don't make sense on their own, they can't see the bigger picture that they are part of. But someone from the outside, someone like me, can see the bigger picture. They can't see it now, but one day, they'll be able to take a step back and see the beautiful tapestry that together they have woven. The tapestry so full of color it's difficult to look at. So intricate and full of detail, each story told in depth by every inhabitant of the island. They love each other and build each other up. They found who they were, what they needed to be, where they needed to go, and why they wanted to live.

They may not know it now, they may have trouble seeing it for the rest of their lives, but here, on this island of misfit toys, they will always find their peace.

The drama club has always stood out to me as an island in the middle of a storm. The camaraderie that I have always felt, that inclusion has always made me feel at home. I love these people, and I wrote this to give them the love and recognition I have always felt they deserved.
