Flowers and Ruins
We smiled to avoid awkwardness,
But then became each other’s reason to smile.
First this was a simple look,
But then we were the only people we’d see.
There was just a giggle,
But then we soon would laugh until we cried.
It began with a wave,
But then we would hold each other’s hand.
The ruins in my world were painted over with meadows of flowers and rays of sunshine,
But then it became cloudy.
The flowers died,
And I was suddenly in ruins again,
Surrounded by anger,
By sadness,
With you nowhere to be seen.
