A Wanted Lingering
Flutters of wings beat within me,
But they aren’t mine to keep.
Your love is deep,
But it’s not for me.
You kiss my face and hope for something more,
But my love isn’t yours.
I wish for an easy escape-
To disappear in a dash of light.
I hope that your future wouldn’t bend
and snap
because I pulled back.
I wish you were flexible, and simple.
But you are a puzzle which took me
years to unlock.
Oh, if only I knew what I would have found,
I wouldn’t have opened you up…
But it’s too late now.
The sun’s gone and the night has come.
I want to be loved,
but you look at me and I am shunned.
Why does disappointment burn?
Why does guilt sting?
If only you were flexible
I could tie you like a string
into the perfect picture of love,
there ever possibly could be.
Why can’t we hold on,
Just a little farther.
Then I’ll leave in a dash of light,
Never to linger longer.
