It All Happens So Fast
It all happens on Father’s Day.
Breathing troubles
end in a trip to the ER-
broken ribs and a fractured spine?
I know something wasn’t right
What causes this pain? My family wonders?
Cancer the doctor state
Cancer?
It all happens so fast.
Breast Cancer-
Stage IV to be exact.
The cancer spreading through her body
quickly eats away at her decaying bones
causing excruciating pain.
It all happens so fast.
Later that night
Mom sits us girls down,
telling my sisters and I
cancer is in her sister’s body.
It all happens so fast.
I try to be strong,
not to cry,
but seeing my mom talk about her sister…
seeing my mom thinking about her childhood memories with her sister,
my aunt,
makes my heart ache for her
It all happens so fast.
It has been a couple months since
the life changing experience in our family.
Back and forth in the hospital,
visits on the farm…
It all happens so fast.
