Moving Day
Moving day.
The big moving truck pulls into your view,
Leaving behind an old life to pursue a new.
You played on the streets of ole’ Saint Pete,
And will never forget the sweltering heat.
Walking through the house in which you used to play,
While your mother pleads with you and asks you to stay.
You grab your bags and continue to walk,
Next to the yard where you learned to talk.
A tear begins to fill your eye,
As you put your bags down to say goodbye.
While you drive down the street, you see your mother lower her head,
And see her heart break and fill with dread.
You finally are alone and free,
Exactly how you thought you wanted to be.
But thinking back on the place you were born,
Your heart is turned on its face and you being to mourn.
You'll miss your mom, your siblings and dad,
But you have to go for now and leave them sad.
Leaving for college is such a big leap,
But the career you earn you get to keep.
Even though you’ll be gone for a while,
Never forget that this is your most important trial.
You will go through ups, downs, and all time lows,
But even though college may be rough, it’s the path you chose.
As you near graduation and you are finally free,
Just remember this is how you wanted life to be.
Don’t forget you friends, family, and ones you held close,
Because they were the ones that loved you most.
Growing older is new, exciting, and fun,
But never forget where you came from.
