A CNA was born

Answering call lights

to attend to a resident’s needs.

A person who is capable to give .

Giving up so much,

time with friends and holidays with family.

Having to stand long hours,

working morning till night.

The capability of showing compassion,

lending an ear, expressing sympathy, and giving hugs.

Having the hidden strength

to lift the residents into bed.

Gentle hands

to reposition them without waking them in the middle of the night.

Giving the time and patience

to clean, change, and dress them.

Showing unlimited kindness,

taking the residents to activities or feeding them when hungry.

Being able to listen

while the residents share their stories.

A provider and giver

they lean on through all the daily care.

Being there for the resident

when all other loved ones are gone.

A shoulder for the families to lean on

when their loved ones lay dying.

A storyteller

reminiscing about the times they shared.

Someone who has the strength

to hold in the tears as the resident takes their last breath.

Thus, a CNA was born.

Working as a CNA, this piece holds a place close to my heart since. This poem explains the strength and loving care someone working in this field needs to have.
