To the Corners of the World

People say I need to remember and so I shall as the first crack of thunder rolls

outside the window and birds fidget in their nest in the bushes. People say I need to

remember and so I shall as I scribble double-headed snakes on my thigh with ink that is

darker than the cat sleeping at my feet. People say I need to remember and so I shall as I bite into a

grape from the icebox and the juice diffuses the ink on my thigh. People say I need to remember

and so I shall as the snakes bite each other in an entangled blur of ink. People say I need to

remember and so I shall as the lightning makes my skin look paper white. People say I

need to remember and so I shall as the grapes dribble all over the bed like milk

from my mother's breast. People say I need to remember and so

I shall as I chase the rain and the lightning under an inky sky to the corners of the world.
