Safe Haven
Music is my safe haven-
by which I mean there
is nothing like music
to get me through a day;
by which I mean that the notes
on a page of music are words
that form a beautiful phrase
that makes the song into sentences;
by which I mean that the hits
on the drum
make my heart
stutter;
by which I mean that the trills
on the flute
make my eyes
flutter;
and by which I mean the fanfare
that is played by the brass
engages my mind and connects
my heart and my soul.
I mean that music is my safe haven,
The beat to my song, the soul to my being, and the heart to my life.

This poem is about music being my safe haven. It is where I feel the safest, when I play and when I listen to music (classical specifically). I play the flute and I'm a senior and planning on going into music education at college.
