God loves

this useless sl*t;

or, at least,

she’s been told

the latter half

and found the former

without assistance.

She loves Him,

though His people

build walls

and she cannot break

them; however,

she can defend love

with the sharpness

of her speech.

Like all imperfections

she sins in even

her own eyes, and cries

herself a baptism

as she is burned

with torched arms

of a cross, head intact.

She holds dreams

of love and bodies,

and usually men,

but once a woman,

and celebrating us.

Celebrating God and

those His people hurt.

The author's comments:

This piece is one I'm proud of for having the confidence to write (also, Elena liked it!) It's mostly about my struggle between my religious and political views, as they don't fit together quite like they do for most people. Though it's meant to encompass the anger towards many social issues, such as racism and sexism, it most directly and obviosuly addresses sexuality issues, including bisexuality (more specifically, preference/questioning bisexuality) and, most clearly, sl*t-shaming (the issue that hits closest to home for me). It's also meant to express the ability to still be loving and religious, despite facing hatred on both ends of the spectrum. I hope there's people out there who can relate to being a Christian, but not quite the kind most people think of. Thank you!
