what you cannot see can't hurt you
they say.
but what about the aching deep in your bones
when he said he couldn't love you,
the stabbing pain in your side
when she turned her back on you,
the scars that never heal
from the words that spewed from his mouth,
the burn marks and battle scars
that were carved deep into your skin that September night
but what they cannot see can't hurt you, right?
