Thorns
Dear boy who picked me,
I’m the rose, with the lovely petals
But it’s the thorns that I have that go after you
They hurt you when you pick me up
And I let you down when I don’t want to cut them off
I apologize but they have always been with me
Protected me from those who tried to pick me
Those who just wanted to hurt me
They have always been there and you just came into my life
Change isn’t easy but for you, it seems worth it
I just don’t ever want to regret getting rid of my thorns
Without them, I’d have no more protection
But for you, it seems worth it
I’d rather take the risk than to not have the experience
If I get hurt, I learned my lesson
And the thorns return
Blossoming and bright red I shall be
If I don’t get hurt
Now don’t fret when my petals get a tear or I slumped down
Your love holds me together
With love,
Your rose
