Origins of Honor
I am from the legends of honorable men...
Men draped with medals, sparks of patriotism and honor.
I am from blood shed, staining the soil of foreign lands
And the land of this nation.
I am from immigrants who arrived in this country with only the clothes on their back,
But the promise of new beginnings and opportunities
I am from farmers, carpenters, professors, doctors and lawyers
Who answered their country’s call
I am from fighter pilots, sailors, Marines, and artillery,
Fort Eustis, Pearl Harbor, Schofield Barracks and Hickam
I walk in the footsteps of those who defended our freedom
sacrificing themselves for our country
I am from selfless service, not for fame or wealth
Not for gratitude or ridicule…
But for honor
