Wide Awake
I sit here in the disaster
I call a life
I see my family ripping apart
From no more grandparents
To no more daddy
Mommy tires to make me
Keep up appearances
My older brother
Stays as a little kid
Playing his silly little video games
While mommy cooks his food for him
Mommy yells at me
Daddy still comes and keeps me safe
I can’t be there anymore
I fall asleep
Where anything is possible
Me living my best life
No ties to the ground
I can finally fly free
Hope is all around me
Like a warm blanket
I snap awake
From yelling
“Why aren’t you cutting grass outside”
Mom finds a way to mess with my happiness
Ripping every strand of happiness out of me
Peeling every layer of hope off my skin
Until I am naked and afraid
I snap wide awake
I am awake from the nightmare
