Rainy Days In October
Let’s go to bookstores on rainy days in October. Let's sit in a cafe with our new books and talk about dragons over hot apple cider. Let's spend Saturday afternoons on the couch in mens extra large sweatshirts and watch movies and drink tea and eat homemade squash soup. Let’s walk in the park as the leaves change color around us and marvel at the cloud streaked sky. Let’s watch sunsets on rooftops and sunrises in fields of sunflowers.
Let’s notice the crunching of leaves beneath our quickening foot steps and slow down. Let’s bathe in the beauty of a season ending and remember that endings are beautiful things too. Just like the trees drop their leaves let us too drop what is tired and wilting and past. Trees lose their leaves in order to survive the winter by saving water so let us remember to let ourselves lose the things that take up our water in our winter. But let us not forget that the leaves we drop were once green and thriving and our leaves one day will be green and thrive again.
Let’s remember in our endeavor in our winters of life to never skip the cloud streaked skies or the afternoons on our couch or the losing of our leaves because those things are not just beautiful, they are fundamental happenings amidst the seasons of life.
