Leaping across white caps,

Dolphins along the coast of France

Laugh and play with each other.

Black, grey, and white swimming

In pods, they shine in sunlight.

They shine until nets cover them

Yanked under the fishing boat

They have followed until now--

In sudden darkness without fresh air

Needed for dolphins to survive.

When fisherman finally pull up

Their lethal net, they find not only

Sea bass to take to market but

Dolphins already dead and

One survivor to kill for pleasure.

I've been writng poetry for 2 years now and one of my hopes for many of my poems is to help people become more aware of the beauty of nature and the neccesity to preserve it for future generations.
