early stages
disappointment feels like
a sore jaw from hanging over your bed
to reach the charger,
greeted then with what disappointment looks like
the outline of a light blue, arrow-shaped triangle
on a colorful screen.
disappointment tastes like
coconut caramel swirl
but not too much, or you'll feel sick.
in fact,
you'll feel sick after anything
because that's what disappointment
does to your taste buds
in its early stages,
still brimming with the sugary cream of false hope.
because right now, the arrow-shaped triangle
is still solid,
the little grey writing reads delivered.
now we wait
for disappointment, the inevitable
we play with our fingers and reload our feed
while we wait for him to see it.
and this,
this is what adolescence feels like.
