Greed
Not long before you and I came to be
All creatures of our world gathered by the Great Tree
Here they discussed and chattered the news
They gave their judgments, opinions, and views
A new species was coming, that news was true
The species was human, me and you
The creatures discussed if we should be given the magic
Some said it be good, others said it be tragic
Eventually they decided that they should vote
So they each wrote down their view on a special note
Then the Great Tree announced the final verdict
But what would result of the ruling, none could predict
Finally, humans were given the magic of old
So we could speak and create things of more worth than gold
But our hearts grew greedy and our wants endless
So we became stupid, stingy, heartless, and reckless
Then one day we chose to steal it all
The magic from all creatures and the rest that was in store
No longer could the creatures speak
All they could do was caw and squeak
But as time passed we forgot the magic of old
And the stories of talking animals that used to be told
Then, once more our greed took control
And we began to hurt nature’s very soul
We poisoned the creature’s waters and smoked their skies
We tore down their homes and ignored their cries
Then we hung their heads upon our wall
And denied that we were hurting them at all
Finally we began to heat their Earth
Not once caring about their worth
We lied and only cared for our greed
And in hurting all others, we did succeed.
