Californian Palm Trees
It never snows in Southern California
It’s as common as the rain
The wind blows through the palm trees
And it sounds like they’re in pain
I stay inside behind velvet curtains
To keep the sunlight out of mind
  I dream vivid teenage dreams
That make it hard to be kind
  And when I cry
  I cry with a smile
  I guess I just don’t get irony
I wonder if I’ll ever have the option to be free
Because the palm trees in California
They make it hard to see
  Is it just me?
Or are everyone’s eyes stuck shut
  Just open up, open up
