"I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer"-Frank Herbert, from the book Dune

"Don't cross the Border!"

They said to stop her.

"It's dangerous out there!"

Her parents plead.

They heard the stories where

people who cross

never were seen.

"Don't cross the Border!"

They said to stop her.

But when she asked why,

they said nothing but lies.

"Those who cross died!"

The people cried.

With a farewell she was

gone.

Like a fading memory.

As the mourners began to leave

the fruitless and futile scene,

bits of the border chipped away.

Again and again the fresh gash grew

followed by a web of cracks.

And with one strong strike the border

broke.

What was outside the border

was what no one knew before.

Flowing streams and tree canopies

and the light of the sun

was seen through the hole.

And, in front of it all, the girl

weilding an ax and beckoning.

One by one the viewers equipped

axes, chainsaws, or anything fit

to destroy the border

for all to see.

By now everyone in the town

worked together to tear it down.

A hailstorm of cement from the dome

threatened to crush everyone's home.

But the people didn't care anymore

they were enslaved no more!

Now they can finally be free.

Free from the birdcage that felt like a home.
