A Happy Day
One day I walked out to the door;
 I skipped outside and then I heard
 —I really could not ask for more—
 The sing-song voice of one sweet bird.

 And when I walked onto the street,
 I watched a tree and saw a squirrel;
 It ran from underneath my feet,
 And up the tree I saw it whirl.

 And if that was not sweet enough,
 Recent rain had left a rainbow;
 The clouds, they floated like some fluff;
 The wind blew cotton just like snow.

 I looked into the field and saw
 The daisies smiling at the sun,
 The chipmunk eating acorn raw;
 It made me want to skip and run—
 I went into the field to run.
