Writer's Block
I really don’t think you realize that
I’ve put my best pens to the test
Black and blue and green and red
 I swore that I wouldn’t rest

I’ve tried and tried and tried to write
My clumsy tribute to your face
They told me to write the things I know
But who knows love and all its ways?

The right words won’t fall into place
Cross-outs and white-outs litter these lines
 This crumpled-up sheet’s quite a nightmare
Of black holes, dead ends, and never-minds

Your lips are red but not too red
 Is that a color? I can’t explain
Why your legs are long, your eyes are blue
Or why this attraction is even sane

The words won’t come, the pen won’t move
But you’ll never see this anyway
No amount of rhyming or pretty words
Will make your fleeting feelings stay
