There’s something deep inside me,
Keeping me awake.
Pulling, squeezing, tugging;
Giving me heartache.

I don’t know what it is.

It’s making me quite frightened,

Maybe it’s the wind,

Or maybe it’s a veiled memory
That’s causing me this pain.

I’ll touch it with my fingers;

Perhaps if it thinks I want it,

If it is not fooled,
I’ll beat it with my fist.
I’ll strike it, pound it to the floor
Until it can no longer exist.

And if that does not work,
I’ll forget that it is there.
I’ll let my eyes close leisurely,
Pretending not to care.
