Insomnia

As I lay me down to sleep,
my mind unwinds in a heap.
Of places I’ve never ventured,
so vivid and detailed, so very structured.
From places to people it goes,
from happiness to horrid woes.
To memories and into the future,
feeding my emotions with its obnoxious nurture.
My lids can’t escape it,
the power of its whit.
And now I feel like I can’t escape this fit.
Insomnia….its flame has lit.
