I must win
My determination is running through my veins
Sweat trickles down my skin

I smash the ball in my racket and watch it spin
I will not let my opponent gain
I must win

I won’t give in
The ball drops and hits the doubles lane
Sweat trickles down my skin

My confidence is reining
I don’t give up or complain
I must win

All I can do now is grin
My opponent’s lip is curled in disdain
Sweat trickles down my skin

I know she will cave in
I know how much I have done and trained
I must win
Sweat trickles down my skin

The author's comments:

I was inspired to write this poem after recalling my strong desire to win my tennis match. I remember feeling strong and invigorated in the moment. I hope people will learn that having ambition and determination will set them apart form others and giver them the special advantage.
