Less than a mile into the wood is
a tree
whose branches spread wide
like open arms.
There is a knothole a few feet
off the ground.
The perfect foothold to climb up to
a thick branch
that bends off into two

The ideal place to lie and
read or
write or
Just breathe.
Looking up
into its sturdy branches
Makes life seem a little more stable.

I like this---having a special tree as a safety place in one's life.

wow. I feel like it reaches the soul at an intimate level. Nice work. Really deserved to be in the magazine. 4 stars because I believe that not everything is perfect (aka 5 stars) :)
