Beautiful Notes
The golden doors of the cathedral screamed for respect as we walked through them. The beautiful mosaics gleamed against the light. We walked through the center of Cathedral Basilica and stopped under the highest dome. The handy work was so beautiful it looked fake. The details in the way the tiles were placed and the images they made were images from dreams.
We went to one side of the church and made a crescent while people gathered around us. The forty-five other choir students around me made me realize how much I loved singing. We began singing our slow, church, songs. All the high notes and sharps sent chills down your spine when they hit the domes. They echoed, a beautiful sound that almost brought tears to your eyes. It was so beautiful, there's no word to describe it.
After one high note, there was a rest, so there was no sound for one beat. During that one rest, you could hear the beautiful echo. Mrs. Letovsky was conducting while smiling from ear to ear. We all did. Everyone clapped and cheered, some were crying, it was so amazing.
There were six songs sang. Every single one was unique and beautiful. I let the music flow through me. I let the notes kiss my heart. I felt that funny feeling in my stomach as we sang and listened to the other songs. Each and every one, gave my heart a leap of love. I fell in love with music all over again. A love to last.
After the experience of singing in the Cathedral, I realized how much I felt at home in the notes of a song. I felt like I belonged with these kids. How happy I was. Music can become a safe place, it’s my safe place. This one moment of singing is all i've shared, but every time I get on that stage, the music flows through my veins the same way each time. These are memories and opportunities I will never forget.
